On December 5, 2024, the Philology Department held a phonetic competition among the groups ELL 23 A, ELL 23 B, ELL 24 A, ELL 24 B, ELL 24 C.
Talented participants demonstrated their skills in expressive reading and pronunciation. The students prepared for the event in advance by studying the poems and tongue twisters given to them. After strict selection for participation in the competition, students were offered an additional task: to learn a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow “The Arrow and the Song” and master new tongue twisters.
The competition consisted of four rounds, each of which tested different aspects of phonetic skills:
- Tongue twisters
- Reading poetry
- Performance of scenes
- Spelling Bee (pronunciation and spelling contest)
A special start of the event was a musical performance by invited students, which set the festive tone for the competition. The jury evaluated the participants according to criteria such as pronunciation, fluency of speech and overall impression of the performance.
The winners were:
1st place: Keisha Nur Afifah
2nd place: Samira Abidzhanova, Aidai Baibolova
3rd place: Asemai Kanatbekova, Anzhelika Zhumanazarova
Also, according to the votes of the jury, there were special places for Ravshan Aidarova and Aisezim Nurmatova. All active participants were awarded certificates for participation.
