On December 3, 2024, the third annual student conference “Gateway to the World of Science” was held at AIU. The event was organized by the Department of Science, the Faculty of Humanities and the Silk Road Research Center.
The Vice-rector for Academic Affairs Rustam Umarov, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities Bekchoro Aliyaskarov and Director of the Silk Road Research Center Sanzharbek Erdolatov addressed the participants with welcoming words. Timur Nadyrshin, Head of the Department of Science, presented the rules of the conference and presented collections of works from previous years.
About 30 reports prepared by students of the Linguistics and Pedagogy Departments were presented at the conference. The works were created within the framework of the Thesis and Fundamentals of Scientific Research courses. For three months, the participants mastered the methodology of scientific research, conducted surveys, analyzed texts and social media, and studied empirical data.
The speakers paid special attention to the university environment. The media consumption of students, perception of appearance standards and preferences in the menu of the university buffet were investigated. A number of works analyzed popular culture: the plots of the films (“Paradise under the feet of mothers”, “Dead Poets Society”, “Soul”, “Puzzle”), the work of singer Adele, as well as the phenomenon of sympathy for antagonists. Some of the research dealt with issues of urban life: road traffic, the popularity of fast food, attitude to the Kulikov brand and the phenomenon of relocation of Russians. Education topics such as the use of interactive whiteboards and knowledge assessment systems were also discussed.
The topics of the reports also included habits during the month of Ramadan, migration processes from Kyrgyzstan, the use of digital services (2GIS, Pinduoduo, Yandex Go), the impact of the pandemic on nutrition and health. The organizing committee of the conference, which included the head of the Linguistics Department Kunduz Akimkanova and the head of the Pedagogy Department Zhyldyz Takenova, noted the high level of research presented. Following the results of the conference, it is planned to publish a collection of scientific papers, which will include the most significant works of the participants.
