What is bilateral programs?

At Ala-Too International University (AIU), we are proud to collaborate with over 100 universities worldwide through our bilateral programs. These initiatives create valuable opportunities for student and faculty exchanges, joint research projects, and dual degree programs. By partnering with institutions in countries such as France, Germany, Japan, China , Malaysia, Hungary, the UK, Poland, South Korea, the USA, and many others, we offer our community a truly global academic experience.

Our bilateral programs allow students to study abroad, gaining international experience and expanding their academic horizons. Faculty members can engage in teaching and research exchanges, sharing knowledge and expertise across borders. Additionally, participants in these programs benefit from enhanced cultural understanding and a global network of contacts.

What is bilateral programs?

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The candidates cannot be enrolled in their first and  last semester of their studies
  • English language level — B2 minimum 
  • GPA score — 70 minimum 

 

Required Documents for Application:

  • Official Transcript from Office of Student Affairs
  • Copy of International Passport
  • Certificate of English Language Skills    
  • Bilateral Student Mobility Programme Application Form

Application Procedure:

  • Applicants can participate in Briefing Seminar to get detailed information about grant based and self-financed student mobility programmes and ask questions from officials.
  • Applicants have to submit required documents before the deadline. 
  • While completing application form applicants have to select three universities from list of partner universities. Applicants have to evaluate availability of the stream and department through partner universities’ websites. The allocation process by Office of International Relations is based on GPA score of applicants.
  • Depending on host university’s requirements the allocated applicants have to submit additional documents and to fill up host university’s Application Form and Learning Agreement- a document where applicants have to choose courses at host university.
  • Selected courses along with credit hours at home and host Universities must coincide at least for 80%, that after returning from mobility programme the courses along with credit hours can be accepted at home University.  Hence applicants have to choose the disciplines very accurately in assistance with head of departments. If there is minimum or no coincidence of credits between home and host universities, applicants may risk to prolong their study until they complete missed credits. 
  • Those applicants who couldn’t submit required documents by deadline can submit later but will be referred for the second stage of allocation process.
  • Applicants who are accepted by receiving universities have to pay tuition fee of AIU for the exchange semester. Mobility students do not pay tuition fee at host university hence have to cover their accommodation, meals, travel, insurance and visa expenses.

  • The Office of International Relations communicates general information through institutional emails, notice boards and telegramme channels..

  • Many high ranking universities in developed nations require an official TOEFL score for exchange programme hence applicants are highly advised to take up official TOEFL.

Guidelines for Incoming Student Mobility 

Students who are interested to spend one semester at Ala-Too International  University can enroll in the Bilateral Mobility program. AIU is open to all undergraduate/ graduate students from all partner universities.

  • English language level B2 minimum 
  • GPA score — 70 minimum

  • Official nomination letter from Home university 
  • Incoming student Application Form
  • Certificate of English Language Proficiency
  • Official Transcript of records 
  • Learning Agreement   
  • Copy of International Passport

Application Procedure:

  • Applicants have to submit Required Documents before the deadline 
  • spring semester — November 30th
  • fall semester – May 15th
  • Consideration of the documents can take a maximum of two weeks
  • Selected courses along with credit hours at home and host universities must coincide at least for 70%, so that after returning from the mobility programme the courses along with credit hours can be accepted at home university. Hence applicants have to choose the disciplines very accurately in assistance with the head of departments.
  • Acceptance letters are sent to incoming students as soon as the documents are confirmed by the departments. 

Tuition fees:

  • Exchange students don’t have to pay tuition fees to AIU for mobility semester, hence have to cover their accommodation, meals, travel, insurance and visa expenses. 

Visa procedure:

EU residents have visa free privileges (up to 60 days) to Kyrgyz Republic. The International Relations Office will send an Invitation Letter in case you need a visa to enter Kyrgyz Republic. 

  • Citizens of 45 countries listed below can stay in Kyrgyzstan for up to 60 days: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bahrain, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary,  Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Korea, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America, Uzbekistan, Vatican.
  • Citizens of 2 countries can stay in Kyrgyzstan for up to 90 days: Mongolia and Turkey.
  • Citizens of the following countries can stay in Kyrgyzstan for up to 30 days: Malaysia.
  • Citizens of the following countries can obtain a visa to Kyrgyzstan without a Letter of Invitation (LOI): Albania, Andorra, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cyprus, Indonesia, Israel, Macedonia. Mexico, Montenegro, Oman, Philippines, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, South Africa, Thailand, Venezuela, Vietnam.

  • After the expiration of visa free days, AIU IRO is responsible for visa extension till the end of your study period. 
  • If you want to enter with the visa from the first day, AIU will apply for visa support to the Department of Consular Service of the Kyrgyz Republic. After receiving favorable confirmation from the government visa agency the applicant will be issued a Visa. Issuance of Visa lies solely on decision of government visa agency.
  • Applicant has to arrive to Kyrgyz Republic in three months from the date mentioned in Visa
  • Applicant must provide information about his/her arrival, ticket details, etc by e-mail to intoffice@alatoo.edu.kg

Health Insurance:

  • Before arrival students are advised to have adequate medical insurance coverage especially for hospitalization cases. Nonetheless, treatment for minor illnesses with minimal fees charged can be obtained at the AIU Students’ Health Office.

Accommodation:

  • Dormitories and communal facilities are provided for students. Accommodation requests will only be considered whether the accommodation request is submitted at least 2 months before the expected date of arrival. Students may also choose other private housing best suited to their lifestyle and location on their own.

Other expenses: 

  • Taxi price from the university to the center of city is ~$2-3 for one way trip 
  • Dinner or lunch in cafes is ~$10 per person
  • Street-food is ~$3,5 per person
  • Traveling in Kyrgyzstan is $~20 per day depends on the region

Accommodation cost includes: 

  • everyday breakfast and dinner, and 3 meals at the weekend. 
  • internet 
  • laundry and ironing room
  • snacks 
  • interactives and seminars for residents 

(6 persons live in a room with their own bed and closet). 

Note: This is the average of living expenses. Expenses can vary depending on students’ lifestyle. Prices for private rent can also vary depending on different situations. 

Exchange Student’s life at AIU: 

  • AIU IRO ensures that incoming mobility participants from host universities are afforded the same academic treatment and access to facilities as regular domicile students. 
  • AIU creates conditions for incoming students to join social organizations (student associations, sports clubs, music or theater groups, debating societies, etc.) within the HEI. 
  • Doctoral students can spend one semester at AIU doing their research, visiting research seminars related to their research topics, conferences, symposia organized by AIU or other Kyrgyz HEI. 
  • AIU IRO and Faculty Coordinators are responsible to accompany incoming students during their stay in AIU and facilitate the carrying out of their planned mobility program. They introduce them with students, professors and organize academic and cultural programs to learn Kyrgyz culture, traditions and values.
  • Responsible people at AIU will be available during the whole mobility period to provide help to solve any problems which might arise.
  • A wide range of student activities are organized at the department, faculty, and university levels. For the full benefit of their stay at AIU, incoming students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular social activities. By participating in the activities, students will have the opportunities to learn more about Kyrgyz culture and the experience of studying in Kyrgyz Republic.

Guidelines for Incoming Erasmus + Students Mobility 

Within the Bilateral Agreements between our partner universities, students who are interested to spend one semester or an academic year at Ala-Too International  University can enroll in the international students mobility program. AIU is open to all undergraduate/ graduate students from all partner universities:

  • GPA score — 80 minimum

  • Certificate of English Language Proficiency

  • Learning Agreement

  • The letter of acceptance will be mailed to successful students together with registration documents to the mailing address given on the application form.
  • Applicants who are accepted don’t have to pay tuition fee to AIU for mobility semester, hence have to cover their accommodation, meals, travel, insurance and visa expenses.

Visa procedure:

  • International Relations Office will send Invitation Letter in case the documents are found satisfactory

  • After receiving needed documents from the applicant, the university will apply for visa support to the Department of Consular Service of the Kyrgyz Republic. After receiving favorable confirmation from government visa agency the applicant will be issued Visa. Issuance of Visa lies solely on decision of government visa agency.
  • International Relations Office (IRO further) will send visa support letter and Provisional Admission Letter in case the documents are found satisfactory
  • Applicant has to arrive to Bishkek city in three months from the date mentioned in Visa
  • Applicant must provide information about his/her arrival (ticket details) by e-mail to int.student@alatoo.edu.kg
  • IRO is responsible for visa extension. 
  • Applicant must provide information about his/her arrival (ticket details) by e-mail to intoffice@alatoo.edu.kg

  • Dormitories and communal facilities are provided for students. Accommodation requests will only be considered whether the form is submitted at least 1 month before the expected date of arrival. Students may also choose other private housing best suited to their lifestyle and location on their own.

Exchange Student’s life at AIU: 

  • AIU IRO ensures that incoming mobility participants from host universities are afforded the same academic treatment and access to facilities as regular domicile students and staff. In addition, responsible persons at AIU will be available during the whole mobility period to provide any further explanations which might be necessary and to help solve any problems which might arise.
  • AIU will create conditions for incoming students to join social organizations (student associations, sports clubs, music or theater groups, debating societies, etc.) within the HEI. 
  • Doctoral students can spend one semester at AIU doing their research, visiting research seminars related to their research topics, conferences, symposia organized by AIU or other Kyrgyz HEI. 
  • AIU IRO and Faculty Coordinators will be responsible to accompany incoming staff during their stay in AIU and facilitate the carrying out of their planned mobility program. They introduce them with students, professors and organize academic and cultural programs to learn Kyrgyz culture, traditions and values. 
  • Extracurricular social activities. For the full benefit of their stay at AIU, students are encouraged to participate in activities organized by student clubs or associations. A wide range of student activities are organized at the department, faculty, and university levels. By participating in the activities, students will have the opportunities to learn about Kyrgyz culture and the experience of studying in Kyrgyz Republic.
  • Applicant has to pass medical examination guided by university health center
  • After completion of all formalities and favorable results the applicant will sign education agreement with admission commission and will be considered as exchange student of university
