What is Erasmus+?

Erasmus+KA171 is the International Credit Mobility Program sponsored by the European Union where participants get academic, personal and cultural development at one of the European universities with the benefit of 800/850 euros monthly and 820 euros for travel expenses. AIU students who have excellent academic achievements and good level of English can participate in the competition and successful candidates will be awarded with Erasmus grants. One of the main functions of the International Relations Office is to facilitate and coordinate Erasmus+ students mobility programs on the basis of open, transparent and merit based policy. The IRO inner selection process for students within Erasmus+ KA1 are carried out according to the following criteria.

The first stage of the selection process is carried out by AIU International Relations Office, on the basis of such criteria as: eligibility, academic excellence, motivation, proficiency of English. 

Eligibility Criteria for students:

  • GPA score — 87 + 
  • English Language level — C1 +
  • The candidates cannot be enrolled in their first and last semester of their studies.
  • Not the grantee who already participated in Erasmus+ KA171   

The students should submit to Office of International Relations the following documents:

  • Application Form
  • Official Transcript of records 
  • English Language certificate- TOEFL IBT ( 80+), PBT (550),  IELTS (6+). In case you do not have a Language Certificate, you have to take an English Language test at the Continuous Education Center of AIU (A-107) to confirm your English language level.
  • Motivation Letter (the candidates should introduce themselves; prove why they are the ones who should win the scholarship. The candidates are to show their passions, interests, hobbies, list any voluntary work at the University or in different institutions, local communities etc. The candidates are to describe their international experience and achievements if they have any). 
  • Scan of a passport – page with a picture (in case somebody doesn’t have one, scanned copy of national ID).

 

The second stage of the selection process is carried out by the International Relations Office and the Faculty Coordinators (responsible people for international relations of the faculties). In the second stage eligible candidates are invited to the face to face interview. Candidates are shortlisted according to the following criteria:

  1. Academic capacity 30%
  2.  Motivation letter 30%
  3.  Interview 40%  

Successful candidates are allocated and nominated to the partner universities according to the appropriateness of their faculties, departments. Depending on host universities’ requirements nominated applicants have to submit additional documents:

    • Application form of receiving university
    • Learning Agreement  (a document where applicants have to choose courses at host university. Applicants have to choose the disciplines very accurately in assistance with the Head of Departments. Selected courses along with credit hours at home and host Universities must coincide at least for 80%. If there is minimum or no coincidence of credits between home and host universities, applicants may risk to prolong their study until they complete missed credits)
  • Language Certificate 
    • Proof of enrolment in a programme in a home university stating the start date of studies and foreseen end date
  • Other documents 

The documents can be changed according to receiving university requirements. The International Relations Office supports outgoing Erasmus participants in visa issues.

Within the Erasmus+KA171 Inter institutional Agreements between our European partner universities, students who are interested to spend one semester at Ala-Too International  University can enroll in the Erasmus+ international students mobility program. AIU is open to all undergraduate/ graduate students from all EU partner universities.
Eligibility Criteria:
  • The candidates cannot be enrolled in their first and  last semester of their studies
  • English language level B2 minimum 
  • GPA score — 80 minimum 
Required Documents for Application:
  • Official nomination letter from Home university 
  • Incoming student Application Form
  • Certificate of English Language Proficiency
  • Official Transcript of records 
  • Learning Agreement   
  • Copy of International Passport
Application Procedure:
  • Applicants have to submit Required Documents before the deadline 
  • spring semester — November 30th
  • fall semester – May 15th
  • Consideration of the documents can take a maximum of two weeks
  • Selected courses along with credit hours at home and host universities must coincide at least for 70%, so that after returning from the mobility programme the courses along with credit hours can be accepted at home university. Hence applicants have to choose the disciplines very accurately in assistance with the head of departments.
  • Acceptance letters are sent to incoming students as soon as the documents are confirmed by the departments. 
Tuition fees:
  • Exchange students don’t have to pay tuition fees to AIU for mobility semester, hence have to cover their accommodation, meals, travel, insurance and visa expenses from Erasmus grant.
Visa procedure: EU residents have visa free privileges (up to 60 days) to Kyrgyz Republic. The International Relations Office will send an Invitation Letter in case you need a visa to enter Kyrgyz Republic. 
  • Citizens of 45 countries listed below can stay in Kyrgyzstan for up to 60 days: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bahrain, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary,  Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Korea, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America, Uzbekistan, Vatican.
  • Citizens of 2 countries can stay in Kyrgyzstan for up to 90 days: Mongolia and Turkey.
  • Citizens of the following countries can stay in Kyrgyzstan for up to 30 days: Malaysia.
  • Citizens of the following countries can obtain a visa to Kyrgyzstan without a Letter of Invitation (LOI): Albania, Andorra, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cyprus, Indonesia, Israel, Macedonia. Mexico, Montenegro, Oman, Philippines, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, South Africa, Thailand, Venezuela, Vietnam.

  • After the expiration of visa free days, AIU IRO is responsible for visa extension till the end of your study period. 
  • If you want to enter with the visa from the first day, AIU will apply for visa support to the Department of Consular Service of the Kyrgyz Republic. After receiving favorable confirmation from the government visa agency the applicant will be issued a Visa. Issuance of Visa lies solely on decision of government visa agency.
  • Applicant has to arrive to Kyrgyz Republic in three months from the date mentioned in Visa
  • Applicant must provide information about his/her arrival, ticket details, etc by e-mail to intoffice@alatoo.edu.kg
Health Insurance:
  • Before arrival students are advised to have adequate medical insurance coverage especially for hospitalization cases. Nonetheless, treatment for minor illnesses with minimal fees charged can be obtained at the AIU Students’ Health Office.
Accommodation:
  • Dormitories and communal facilities are provided for students. Accommodation requests will only be considered whether the accommodation request is submitted at least 2 months before the expected date of arrival. Students may also choose other private housing best suited to their lifestyle and location on their own.

(6 persons live in a room with their own bed and closet).  Note: This is the average of living expenses. Expenses can vary depending on students’ lifestyle. Prices for private rent can also vary depending on different situations.  Exchange Student’s life at AIU: 
  • AIU IRO ensures that incoming mobility participants from host universities are afforded the same academic treatment and access to facilities as regular domicile students. 
  • AIU creates conditions for incoming students to join social organizations (student associations, sports clubs, music or theater groups, debating societies, etc.) within the HEI. 
  • Doctoral students can spend one semester at AIU doing their research, visiting research seminars related to their research topics, conferences, symposia organized by AIU or other Kyrgyz HEI. 
  • AIU IRO and Faculty Coordinators are responsible to accompany incoming students during their stay in AIU and facilitate the carrying out of their planned mobility program. They introduce them with students, professors and organize academic and cultural programs to learn Kyrgyz culture, traditions and values.
  • Responsible people at AIU will be available during the whole mobility period to provide help to solve any problems which might arise.
  • A wide range of student activities are organized at the department, faculty, and university levels. For the full benefit of their stay at AIU, incoming students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular social activities. By participating in the activities, students will have the opportunities to learn more about Kyrgyz culture and the experience of studying in Kyrgyz Republic.

The Erasmus+ Staff Mobility Program is a week / or two weeks teaching /training program for academic and administrative staff members sponsored by the European Union. Within the Erasmus +KA171 participants can get academic, personal and cultural development at one of the AIU partner universities in Europe with the benefit of up to 1920€ for living and travel expenses.

  Selection process for staff members:   The first stage of the selection process is carried out by AIU International Relations Office, on the basis of such criteria as: eligibility, academic capacity and proficiency of English.   Eligibility Criteria:
  • Full time employee at AIU 
  • At least two years (last and current) working experience at AIU
  • English Language Proficiency- C1 level for academic staff
                                                  B2 level for administrative staff 
  • Not the grantee who already participated in Erasmus+Staff Mobility Programme current and last academic years.
  If you are eligible and have the necessary professional competencies and qualifications to carry out the proposed program, please, submit online application attaching the following documents:

  • Motivation letter (candidates should introduce themselves; prove why they are the ones who should win the scholarship. Candidates are to describe their international experience and achievements if they have any. Candidates have to explain expected outcomes of the program to him/her and to the University).

  • Proposal of teaching/training program at receiving University (preliminary a week teaching or training program describing your activities at host university). 
  The second stage of the selection process and final decision is held by Selection Committee formed by Rector, Vice rectors and International Relations Officers. In the second stage each candidate will have a face to face interview.  The candidates are shortlisted according to the following criteria:
  • Academic capacity 30%
  • Motivation letter 30%
  • Interview 40%  
  • Appropriateness of faculties/departments 
  Successful candidates will be allocated to the partner universities according to the appropriateness of their teaching or training areas. Ala-Too International University, to promote the principles of equality and inclusiveness, intends to offer 10 % of the grants out of competition within Erasmus+KA171 to students with fewer opportunities and take the following measures:

  • To identify students from the following groups as the students with fewer opportunities / students from vulnerable groups: 
  1. Students with mental, physical problems 
  2. Students with economic disadvantage
  3. Students from ethnic minority groups 
  4. Gender factor 
  5. Children of migrants
  6. Emigrants 
  7. Refugees
  8. Students from remote or rural areas

If you feel you belong to one of these groups, kindly visit the International Relations Office or Head of Departments, Students Affairs Office to inform your willingness to participate in the Erasmus+International Credit Mobility Program.

The International Relations Office take the following measures to encourage and support students with fewer opportunities to participate in the Erasmus + Student Mobility programs: 

  • To work closely with the Students Affairs Office, Heads of Departments to identify students with fewer opportunities; 
  • To produce promotional material and publications in relevant languages including sign language, and appropriate formats such as large print, easy-to-read and braille, with information of possibility to benefit from funding (10% out of all grants) available to support people with fewer opportunities
  • To simplify the application procedures. To avoid as much as possible bureaucratic issues not requiring lots of documents in the application 
  • To add a question in the application identifying if they feel they belong to one of above-mentioned groups. If yes, request them shortly specify  
  • To form a Selection Committee that will identify the most vulnerable students 
  • To provide personal empowerment, linguistic support, cultural preparation and explain what is expected from them and whom to contact for educational, administrative and personal support during the activities
  •  To provide a range of support activities: to help with visa issues, to meet / see off them at the airport, to find accommodation, etc
  • To provide a counterpart or a peer at the host university with whom they can exchange their experience and prevent or address any kind of difficulties
  • The university is encouraged to involve the returned participants in local activities (information, support activities) in order to maximize the experience and to encourage future participants
  • To accept the credit hours.
