AIU student is studying in South Korea as part of the Global Korea Scholarship

Saikal Sakmamatova, a 3rd-year student of the Department of International Relations of the AIU, is studying in South Korea as part of the Global Korea Scholarship program – a scholarship for outstanding exchange students with financial support from the Korean government.

Having successfully completed the selection process – filling out a form, writing a motivation letter, curriculum and preparing other documents such as certificates, letters of recommendation, our student spends the spring semester at the AIU partner university – Gyeongsang National University (GNU) in Jinju, South Korea.

“I specialize in political science at GNU. My lecturers come from different countries, including South Korea, China, the USA and France. Against this background, communicating with a variety of students from China, Vietnam, France, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Japan and other countries brings me a significant advantage as a student of international relations. South Korea prioritizes education as a fundamental factor in its economic growth, and focuses on high-quality education, including STEM subjects.

This is my first solo trip abroad, and I am immersed in the life of Korean students. By carefully observing their learning habits, I am aware of their diligence and hard work, which is typical for Korean students. South Korea attaches great importance to education as a key driver of economic growth and innovation. I also had the opportunity to get acquainted with Korean culture, traditions and cuisine. From visiting historical sites to tasting new dishes, every experience enriches me. Starting from scratch, I signed up for language courses and am now learning the basics of the Hangul Korean alphabet. I am grateful to my university, the International Office and the IR department for this great opportunity” Saikal said.
