The Senate is a social and professional governing body of a higher education institution. Decisions of the Academic Council on issues of selection, placement, dismissal of personnel, financial and economic activities are advisory in nature.
The Senate is formed as follows:
- (chairman of the council), vice-rectors, academic secretary, head of the educational and inspection department, directors of institutes, centers, deans of faculties, heads of specialized departments, heads of other scientific and pedagogical departments, trade union and student public organizations (this contingent should not exceed 50% of the total number of members of the Senate);
- representatives of institutes, faculties and other educational and scientific structural units from among leading scientists, professors and associate professors elected in the prescribed manner by the Academic Councils of the relevant structures.
The Academic Council may include heads of scientific and research institutions, prominent scientists, artists and cultural figures in the field of specialist training who do not work at the IAU.
