Ala-Too International University (AIU) is one of the leading international universities in Central Asia, founded in 1996. The founder of the AIU is the “Sapat” International Educational Institution. The AIU is a legal entity, a private institution operating in accordance with the legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic.
In 2013, AIU opened the IT & Business College, and then the Distance Learning Center (DLC), Master's and Postgraduate courses, which expanded the prospects for new growth and development of the university. Today, AIU has 4 academic faculties, 19 Bachelor's degree programs, 2 Bachelor's degree programs (DLC), 2 Master's degree programs (DLC), 10 Master's degree programs, 6 Postgraduate programs, 3 Doctoral / Ph.D programs and 3 Institutes.

The language of instruction is English. Students of individual faculties can choose Japanese, German, Chinese or French as a second foreign language. Foundation courses are provided for those who do not speak English.
AIU works closely with universities in North America, South Korea, Germany, Poland and France in the framework of the dual degree program. By participating, students receive benefits such as immersion in a new cultural and educational environment, two diplomas for the same period of study, as well as competitiveness in the labor market for employment, both at home and abroad. Since education at AIU is conducted in English, the university prepares its students to study at English-speaking universities from all over the world. It is important to note that this opportunity is provided in certain faculties in the presence of high academic performance during 1-2 courses. After careful selection, the student will have the opportunity to participate in the double degree program. Below is a list of universities from seven countries:
North American University, North America (Bachelor)
North American University is a private educational institution in Houston, USA. Students of IT, Management and Pedagogy only with high academic performance can participate in the 2+2 double degree program. 2+2 means that the student will study at AIU for the first two years, the remaining two years at North American University. The University strives for excellence in teaching and student orientation, as well as to create an environment conducive to the development of global cultural competence, personal growth and responsible citizenship.
Solbridge International School of Business, Woosong University, South Korea (Bachelor's Degree)
AIU has signed an agreement with Solbridge International School of Business. It is an international educational institution, part of Woosong University. Students of Management, Economics, Finance and International business can participate in the 3+1 program. Solbridge International School of Business can provide discounts for AIU students.
Inha University, South Korea (Bachelor's Degree)
Another university – Inha University is a partner of AIU under the 2+2 program. Students of Management, Economics and IT can become participants of this program and spend two academic years in South Korea.
Hof University of Applied Sciences, Germany (Bachelor's Degree)
Hof University of Applied Sciences accepts students in the field of Computer Science and Computer Engineering. Students can study in Germany under the 2+2 program. Also, graduates of the IT direction of the AIU can undergo an internship.
Bialystok University, Poland (Bachelor's Degree)
AIU cooperates with Bialystok University, which gives students the opportunity to study in Poland for two years.
University of Applied Sciences of Zwickau, Germany (Master's Degree)
The University of Applied Sciences of Zwickau in Germany provides AIU students with a double degree Master's program in Management. This university is attractive because unique research projects are being conducted, clearly structured training programs are offered and close business relationships with many enterprises have been established. Every year at least 1,000 foreign students from 50 countries come to study in Germany.
University of Clermont Auvergne, France (Master's Degree)
The University of Clermont-Auvergne provides AIU students with an Erasmus+ double degree Master's program in the specialty “Development Economics”. The student will have a great opportunity to study for a year in France, receiving an Erasmus+ scholarship and employment in France in the field of economic development. Those students who have shown high academic performance in the 1st year in such areas as Management, Economics, International relations and Applied mathematics can apply for the program.
Currently, AIU has a Memorandum of Understanding with more than 100 leading universities from the USA, Great Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Albania, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, South Korea, Poland, Argentina, Sri Lanka, Georgia, Ukraine, India, Austria, Belarus, Croatia, Lithuania, Latvia, Taiwan etc., within the framework of Bilateral and Interdepartmental agreements – with more than 20 European universities within the framework of Erasmus+. The university also actively cooperates with Fulbright, one of the most prestigious and influential international exchange programs in the United States.
Having received highly professional interdisciplinary multidisciplinary education, computer knowledge, mastering foreign languages, leadership and entrepreneurship skills, over 80% of AIU graduates quickly find a job and enter a modern, competitive working life. Over a quarter century of its history, the AIU has produced over 4,500 successful professionals who are actively working for the prosperity of Kyrgyzstan, Central Asia and the world. AIU provides students with tuition discounts from 5% to 100% for any program, depending on academic achievements and family circumstances. Upon graduation from the university, a state diploma of higher professional education of the Kyrgyz Republic is issued.

The AIU campus is located in a picturesque area of Bishkek, away from the hustle and stress of the city, and includes over 4,000 square meters of open space with five academic buildings, a library, innovative laboratories, a football field, basketball and volleyball courts, a tennis court, canteens, buffets and a beautiful garden.
Today, we can say with confidence that the establishment of an international university in Bishkek has become one of the most important incentives for the development of the capital, as well as the successful transformation of the scientific and educational potential of our country. All this became possible thanks to the joint painstaking work of the faculty and administrative staff of the university. The leadership of the seven rectors, combined with the efforts of board members, administrators, faculty, staff, alumni, international partners and donors, eventually created the university, which has become one of the largest private educational institutions in Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia.

The main stages in the development of the history of the AIU
In 1996 , the first academic programs “Computer Engineering” and “English language and literature” were established.
In 1998 , two more programs were opened: “Management” and “International Relations”.
In 2001 , AIU graduated its first graduating class, which became a significant stage in the history of the university.
2003 - the opening of the AIU campus in the Tunguch microdistrict.
In 2003 , three faculties were established at the university:
1) “Faculty of Economics and Humanities” with such programs as “International Relations”, “Management”, “World Economy”, “Finance and Credit”.
2) “Faculty of New Technologies”, which included the following programs: “Computer Engineering”, “Management in Engineering” and “Electronics”.
3) “Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities” with the following specializations: “Turkology”, “English language and literature”, “Simultaneous translation”, “Chinese language and literature”.
In 2008 – to maintain contact with alumni, the university established the Ala-Too Alumni Fund.
In 2013 , with new prospects for growth and development, AIU opened an IT & Business College, then a Distance Learning Center (DLC), a Master's and Postgraduate program.
At the beginning of the 2016-2017 academic year, AIU established the fourth “Faculty of Medicine”, which today is one of the largest international faculties of the university and attracts the brightest and most talented students from all over Central Asia and the whole world.
Over time, the existing faculties expanded and opened new programs such as “Journalism”, “Psychology”, “Jurisprudence”, “Applied Mathematics” and “Computer Science and Engineering”.
In 2022 , a new “E” Block was opened at the university. In the same year, the PhD program in the field of “Computer Science and Information Technology” was opened.
2023 – The opening of the Cybersecurity Center in AIU, which became part of the OIC-CERT. Also this year, such new Master's degree programs as “Journalism”, “Psychology”, “Jurisprudence”, “Philology” and two more PhD programs in the fields of “Philology” and “Pedagogy” were opened.
2024 – The first diploma of the Dual Degree program. Natalia Mayatskaya, a graduate of the Faculty of Computer Science of the AIU, received a diploma from the Hof University of Applied Sciences in Germany.
In the same year the scientific journals EJBE and Alatoo Academic Studies strengthened their positions in the first and second places among the scientific journals of Kyrgyzstan. It should be noted that Alatoo Academic Studies, published in AIU since 2006, has been ranked first since 2021. In addition, EJBE journal is officially included in Scopus, one of the world's leading databases on abstracts and citations of scientific research.
